About SolOffice is an Open Source project from Saturn Laboratories which is aimed at producing a free, yet powerful, alternative to Microsoft Office. It will support all of the most popular formats, including Microsoft's Word and Excel. At this stage, however, SolOffice is still in the early development phase. SolOffice is currently being developed in Delphi 7. We're looking for developers who would like to contribute towards this project. We have format specifications for various file formats, so if you're interested in becoming part of this, please e-mail the Project Administrator for more information. How do the versions of the files work? We work on a fairly simple system, consisting of 4 digits: A.B.C.D. "A" is the major version number. Whenever a "new" version is released, this number is incremented by 1. "B" is the minor version number. If there are some fairly major bug fixes and enhancements, but this is not a new version, the minor version number is incremented by 1. "C" is the release version. Every time there is a release, this number will be incremented by 1. Finally, "D" is the build number. This number is incremented from time to time when the code is rebuilt from the source completely. This build number always increases and is fairly independent of the other versioning numbers. If a new release is made, the build number continues from the last build number, it does not restart 0 as might be expected. The build number also does not increase at the same rate as the release version number. It may increment many times between releases. Apart from the build number, version numbers initially start off at 0. |
